Origin & Production:
Hazendal Pinotage is a bold expression of South Africa’s signature red grape. The fruit is hand-harvested from mature vines, destemmed, and fermented in open fermenters. Extended skin contact enhances colour and flavour concentration. The wine is matured in a mix of French and American oak barrels for 12–14 months, developing rich complexity and smooth tannins.
Tasting Notes:
The nose reveals ripe plum, blackberry, and mulberry, layered with mocha, spice, and hints of smoky oak. The palate is robust yet silky, offering dark berry compote flavours with undertones of dark chocolate, espresso, and sweet spice. Balanced acidity and polished tannins lead to a satisfying, lingering finish.
Serving Suggestion:
Serve at 16–18°C with barbecue meats, venison stew, or spiced lamb kebabs. Also pairs well with rich vegetarian dishes such as lentil curry or grilled eggplant.
