Origin & Production:
Hazendal Syrah is a premium red from Stellenbosch, crafted from hand-selected grapes grown in well-drained granite and clay soils. The grapes are destemmed and fermented in open-top tanks with gentle punch-downs to preserve fruit integrity. Aged for 14–16 months in French oak barrels, including a portion of new oak, the wine develops its signature spice and smoky notes.
Tasting Notes:
On the nose, vibrant aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and black cherry are interwoven with pepper spice, violets, and hints of smoked meat. The palate is rich and velvety, offering ripe dark fruit flavours layered with cocoa, clove, and earthy undertones. Balanced acidity and silky tannins provide elegance, while the smoky, savoury finish leaves a lasting impression.
Serving Suggestion:
Serve at 16–18°C alongside grilled lamb chops, beef short ribs, or roasted duck. This Syrah also pairs beautifully with hearty mushroom dishes and aged hard cheeses. Ideal for cosy dinners and special occasions.
